If you’ve watched a few of my recent running shoe videos, you may have noticed a recurring comment.
“You’re just an ASICS fanboy.”
Honestly?
It doesn’t bother me.
In fact, it made me ask a much bigger question.
Why is there such a stigma around finding one running shoe brand that simply works for you?
That’s exactly what inspired my latest YouTube video, and it’s something I think every runner, whether you’re just starting out or training for your next marathon, should think about.

Running Shoes Are More Personal Than Most People Realise
Unlike a phone, a camera or even a watch, running shoes become part of every step you take.
Over the course of a single run, your feet can hit the ground thousands of times. During a marathon, that number climbs into the tens of thousands.
Every runner moves differently.
Some runners are heavier than others.
Some land on their heels, while others land on their midfoot or forefoot.
Some have wider feet, higher arches or different mobility.
So it makes complete sense that the shoe one runner absolutely loves could feel completely wrong for someone else.
That’s why I’ve never believed there’s one “best” running shoe.
There’s only the best running shoe for you.
The Wrong Shoe Can Affect More Than Your Feet
When people talk about running shoes, they often focus on pace or performance.
But for many runners, especially beginners, choosing the wrong shoe can have much bigger consequences.
A shoe that doesn’t suit you can contribute to discomfort, blisters or unnecessary aches that make every run feel harder than it needs to.
Over time, that can chip away at your confidence.
You start skipping sessions.
You begin wondering whether running just isn’t for you.
Sometimes it isn’t your motivation that’s the problem.
It’s simply that you’re wearing a shoe that doesn’t work for your body.
The Right Shoe Builds Confidence
Finding a running shoe that suits you changes everything.
Instead of thinking about sore feet or uncomfortable landings, you start focusing on the run itself.
You become more consistent.
You recover better.
You look forward to your next run instead of worrying about it.
That confidence grows over time, and consistency is where the real progress happens.
For me, that’s been one of the biggest lessons of my running journey.
Why I Keep Coming Back to ASICS
Over the last couple of years, I’ve naturally gravitated towards ASICS.
Not because I think they’re the best running shoes ever made.
Not because I believe everyone should wear them.
I’ve tried shoes from other brands.
Some have been really good.
But whenever I lace up an ASICS shoe, I know what I’m getting.
They give me confidence.
As someone who started running carrying significantly more weight than I do today, that confidence has always mattered.
If I trust what’s on my feet, I can stop thinking about the shoes and simply enjoy running.
That’s not blind brand loyalty.
That’s trusting my own experience.
If It Isn’t Broken…
People often tell me I should try more brands.
And I probably will.
I genuinely enjoy testing new running shoes.
But equally, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with sticking with something that consistently works.
If you’ve found the shoe that makes you excited to head out for another run, that’s worth holding onto.
Not because of the logo on the side.
Because of how it makes you feel.
Final Thoughts
This conversation isn’t really about ASICS.
It’s about confidence.
It’s about consistency.
And it’s about giving yourself permission to trust your own experience instead of chasing whatever happens to be popular online.
The goal isn’t for everyone to wear the same running shoes.
The goal is for more people to enjoy running.
If you’ve found the pair that makes you want to lace up tomorrow morning, then you’ve already found something more valuable than the internet’s opinion.
