Elevate Your Audio: Testing the Hollyland Lark M1 with DJI Osmo Action 3

The DJI Osmo Action 3, while I think the audio on this is pretty good, you’re restricted by actually having to be in front or near the camera to get picked up by the on board microphone. With one very budget friendly accessory and maybe an existing wireless microphone of yours then this could be your next audio upgrade.

The problem with all cameras, whether that’s action cameras, phones or normal cameras, is when you’re speaking up close (to the camera) it’s fine, you’re using the on board microphone, but what happens when you what to be talking from further away and you can’t because you’re out of shot of the microphone, what are you gonna do, well, with this one cable, that I’ve got on my Hollyland Lark M1 connected to the DJI Osmo Action 3, I can now use a wireless microphone.

Have you ever watched a video, or your own video while editing and thought that the audio could just be a bit better, or maybe your filming outdoors and there’s a lot wind noise and you’ve thought, “Ugh, I can’t stand this”? Well, those days are over! With the DJI Osmo Action 3 and the Hollyland Lark M1 or any other wireless microphone together, you’re about to get an upgrade in your sound capabilities not only from a quality point of view but also the distance between you and the camera point of view.

For better audio, I’ve got the Hollyland Lark M1 actually stuck to the side of this, it’s a bit impractical for now but, for the purpose of the test, just seeing the audio of the Hollyland Lark M1 with the DJI Osmo Action 3.

That one simple cable is this, a Hollyland 3.5mm TRS Male to USB-C cable. One end goes into the port on the receiver of the Lark M1 and the USB-C end goes into the Osmo Action 3, and that’s it. Power on both devices and you’re connected!

The external mic should provide a fuller, more detailed audio profile, especially in noisy environments.

The advantages of having a camera, that produces good action shots and a microphone, that produces good quality audio, means that you’ve got these two things dedicated to what they do best, working together, to give you the best end product.

The Lark M1 delivers crisp, clear audio that will elevate your videos to pro levels which will perfectly complement the video quality coming from the Osmo Action 3.

Imagine you’re vlogging at a bustling street market. The sounds of the crowd, the chatter, and the music are all around you. With a dedicated wireless microphone like the Lark M1, your voice cuts through the noise, clear as day, no matter how far away from the camera you are.

The good thing about this setup is that it works for your phone too, as long as it has a USB-C port. Just simply use that cable to connect the Lark M1 receiver to your phone. Go to your audio settings and select the external device option. Start recording, and you’re all set (I’ve been using this method with the Blackmagic Cam app on the iphone).

This setup, whether you’re using an action camera, your phone or a traditional camera, this is going to be perfect for interviews, podcasts on the go, or even just capturing those moments that require either improved audio quality or your subjects to be further away from the camera while still capturing the audio. This setup ensures your audience hears every word.

You’re now ready to capture life’s moments with impeccable sound quality. Whether you’re using the DJI Osmo Action 3 or your trusty smartphone, the Hollyland Lark M1 is your gateway to audio excellence.

Obviously, if you’re happy with a less clunky setup or just prefer these types of handheld shots where you’re essentially going to remain this far away from the camera at all times, which is primarily what I use this camera for, then using the additional external microphone wouldn’t be best option. But if you’ve got one of these and want better audio, then all you need is this cheap cable.
