Perfectionism and Why You don’t need it to create content.

Let’s talk about a common problem that many beginners face when they start creating content and that’s perfectionism.

Perfectionism is the belief that everything you do has to be flawless, or else it’s not worth doing.

It’s the fear of making mistakes, receiving criticism, or failing to meet your own or others’ expectations. Perfectionism can hold you back from creating content, because you might spend too much time editing, revising, or procrastinating, or it might just simply prevent you from starting at all.

But here’s the thing, perfectionism is not realistic, nor is it helpful. No one is perfect and no content or content creator is perfect. Even the most successful creators, have their flaws, errors and always believe that there is room for improvement.

The difference is that they don’t let perfectionism stop them from creating and sharing their work with the world. They understand that creating content is a process of learning and growing, not a test of their worth or ability.

So, let’s take that philosophy and mode it to how can you overcome perfectionism and start creating content as a beginner? and here are some of my favourite tips:

Set yourself realistic and specific goals

Instead of aiming for perfection, aim for progress, instead of saying to yourself “I want to make a perfect video”, say (to yourself) “I want to make a video that covers these three points and has good audio quality” and then you’ve got your realistic goal for that piece of content. For the next video, do the same thing and repeat that same process every time.

Focus on the value you provide, not the flaws that you think you have. Remember that your content is not for yourself, but for your audience.

Think about how your content can help, inspire, entertain, or educate those people watching you. Don’t worry about the minor details that they most likely won’t notice or care about.

Embrace feedback and constructive criticism

Instead of seeing feedback and criticism as threats or attacks, although some feedback and criticism can be malicious, see them as opportunities to learn and improve.

Seek out constructive feedback from people you trust and respect, and use it to make your content better. Don’t take feedback personally, but objectively.

Celebrate your achievements and learn from your failures

I’ve mentioned this in previous articles and videos that I’ve done like this and if you haven’t checked those out, I recommend giving them a read, but I think that it’s very important especially for self motivation. Every time you create and share content, remember you’re taking a brave step and doing something amazing, something that the majority of people out there in the world or consuming your content would never do.

Tips to retain your Creative Motivation

Creating content doesn’t have to be seen as lonely, while it can be for some people, there are other reason’s why just…

Be proud of yourself and acknowledge your efforts and results. At the same time, don’t be afraid to fail or make mistakes. Failure is not the end, but the beginning of learning. Learn from your failures and use them to grow and improve your content.

Remember, creating content is not about being perfect, but about being yourself. You have something unique and valuable to offer to the world, and you don’t need to be perfect to do that. You just need to be willing to start, learn, and grow.

Finding your own style of content creation is a process of discovering and expressing your unique voice and tone. Your voice is the personality and perspective that you bring to your content, while your tone is the mood and emotion that you convey to your audience. Your style should reflect who you are, what you want to say, and how you want to say it.

Finding your own style isn’t easy or quick. It takes time, effort, trial and error, feedback and revision. But it’s also rewarding and fulfilling. It allows you to express yourself creatively and connect with your audience effectively.
